How I Keep My Skin Clear on Pool Days (From a Floridian Esthetician)
Struggling with oily skin or breakouts but want to enjoy the sun? As a Florida-based esthetician, I'm sharing my full pool day morning skincare routine to keep acne under control without sacrificing protecting my skin. Discover some preferred products, why I combine mineral and chemical sunscreens, and my must-have vitamin C serum and azelaic acid to maintain clear pores and prevent hyperpigmentation.

Acne-Prone Skin Care for Pool Days: Key Takeaways
Summer is here, and if you have acne-prone or oily skin, you might be wondering how to prep your skin for a day at the pool or beach without triggering breakouts. In my latest YouTube video, I break down my exact skincare routine as an aesthetician living in sunny Florida—sharing not just the products I use, but why I use them.
If you’re managing acne but still want to enjoy the sun, here are a few key takeaways from the video:
1. Start with a Gentle, Effective Cleanse
A thorough morning cleanse ensures your skincare products penetrate properly.
Avoid over-stripping your skin—harsh cleansers can damage your barrier, especially before sun exposure.
I use the Sanitas Vitamin C Lactic Cleanser for mild exfoliation and hydration.
2. Layer Antioxidants for Sun Protection
Sun exposure increases free radical damage, so antioxidants like vitamin C are a must.
My go-to is the Naturium Vitamin C Super Serum Plus, which also contains niacinamide and encapsulated retinol to address acne and pigmentation.
3. Don’t Skip Moisturizer—Even If You’re Oily
A lightweight moisturizer helps maintain balance, especially if you’re using active ingredients.
I love the AnteAGE Moisturizer (though it’s pricey) for its barrier-supporting ceramides and antioxidant boost.
4. Choose the Right Sunscreen—Especially Around the Eyes
For acne-prone skin, mineral sunscreens are often better tolerated.
I use Black Girl Sunscreen Kids SPF 50 on my neck and ears (budget-friendly and water-resistant).
Around my eyes, I opt for a TIZO mineral sunscreen (SPF 40) to avoid irritation.
5. Body Sunscreen Should Be Practical
For the body, I prioritize affordability and ease of application—Alba Botanica Fragrance-Free or Banana Boat Kids SPF 50 are great options.
Reapply liberally—your bottle should be nearly empty by the end of a beach day!
